Hi,

Pretty new to using .htaccess and a .htpasswd file to control access to folders with a password. I've got it working on my machine at home, but can't get it to work on my web space. I'm putting the .htpasswd file in the root folder (above www) and I think that the problem is that the path (/.htpasswd) in my .htaccess file is incorrect. Please can you advise what the path should be.

I generated the file on my Windows machine, using htpasswd.exe and MD5 encryption which I believe is ok cross platform. I thought I'd mention that in case the path is correct and you think my file might be duff

Hi,

Yes, the path in your .htaccess file is wrong, I have changed this in the .htaccess file for you (I've not displayed the full path here for potential securty reasons).
